MODERN AND JAZZ CLASSES 2009-2010

  • REGISTRATION FOR FALL AND WINTER BEGINS AUGUST 27TH

  • For more information on the Orchesis Dance Program registration/attendance policy and procedures, please consult the Campus Recreation website at www.campusrec.ualberta.ca or call the Activity Registration Zone-Sales Office at 780-492-2231.

Full membership offers participants:
- Dance training through weekly modern and jazz dance classes;
- Dancers may register for one class at the level appropriate to their training and may take an optional 2nd class at no additional charge
- Performance opportunity is an option with yearly membership: Dance Motif, an annual concert showcasing Orchesis choreography and talent
- All classes consist of preparatory exercises, locomotor work across the floor, stretching and the learning of dance phrase combinations
 
Please Note:- G.S.T. is included in all fees
Annual membership is required to participate in Dance Motif, 2010
- An additional fee ($126/class for annual members) will be charged to participate in more than the two weekly classes included in the basic membership
- Annual Members may register in Fall, Winter and Spring classes
- Fall Members may only register Fall session classes. A 3rd fall class over the 2 weekly maximum would be charged an additional $63

Orchesis Modern
- Various technical styles of modern dance with floorwork, barre exercises and traveling movement phrases, accompanied by live musicians
 
Orchesis Modern I - Introductory
- For beginning dancers or those with relatively little dance experience.
- This class is a great way to get physically active, and be creative with movement and body awareness.

Orchesis Modern II - Intermediate
- Mixed level class recommended for dancers with 2 years of experience or solid foundation in modern dance.
- Recommended for Level III dancers as supplementary training.

Orchesis Modern III - Advanced
- Fast paced and technically challenging. This class is recommended for dancers with 4 or more years of modern dance experience.
- Instructor must place dancers in this class.
- Dancers wishing to take part in Level III classes must attend first placement class on Thursday September 17 from 1830-2030 in E-19.

Orchesis Jazz
- Dance for fun and fitness accompanied by today’s contemporary music.
- Jazz classes emphasize the practice and perfecting of technique, within the jazz idiom
 
Orchesis Jazz I
- Appropriate for beginning dancers with no experience and those with less than 2 years prior dance 
  experience.
- Basic technique is addressed and phrases are broken down more slowly

*Campus Recreation NCI Ballet classes precede Modern II, & Modern I on Monday &  Wednesday and are also offered Friday from 5 – 6:25 PM. Because of the ideal training placement for Orchesis dancers, members are encouraged to enrol in these Ballet classes if seeking more dance training. Refer to the Campus Recreation Activity Guide for Ballet registration details.
